Also, if you look at the S file you can probably figure out how to remove detail levels. So you can change them to pretty much whatever you want. Just be sure to keep the first and last level.

I just finished redoing my boxcar design to eliminate merged objects and got the following LOD vertices reductions using 4.23 Release Candidate:

100m – 1132
300m – 903
400m – 857
500m – 819
700m – 781
2000m – 409

Looks like in this case several intermediate levels don’t contribute much. I think most of the benefit would be realized with just three levels – 100, 700, and 2000.

I took your advice and manually edited out the 400m and 500m sections of the s file reducing it’s file size from 1031KB to 714KB. So far everything seems to be working fine.

True enough. But you do want to keep the transition as smooth as possible. If the transitions change the detail too much you tend to see andquot;poppingandquot; from version to version.

I would keep 100, 300, 700 and 2000.
