I use CorelDraw to reduce the terragen image to 400X400 pixels and then import it into 3DC. I use them for background images on the side panels. Works perfectly and it’s pretty fast.
I’ve encountered a terrific slowdown when i generate a landscape in 3DC.

New users who might like a landscape generator but are, like me, a) too mean to pay any money and b) too lazy to read instructions might like to try Terragen.

Its easy to produce landscapes with just a few clicks.

I’m faily sure Terragen will output to a greyscale bitmap. andnbsp; You can then import your terrain using 3DCs terrain object.

As far as I know Terragen is only good for producing pretty landscape background pictures, doesn’t handle any fancy animations etc.
Its just a matter of setting specifications for your landscape and clicking ‘render’. When thats done the pictures is simply saved as a bitmap.
On my earlier post I just painted the scene onto a suitably scaled cube.

I’ve used 3dem for creating landscapes from Digital Elevation Models. I convert the image into a wrml file and import it into 3DC. 3dem is freeware and easy to use. I’m going to try Terragen too.

Just as an update, I have dropped Terragen, and have concentrated more on the use and generation of hightfields in POV and 3DC. Terragen is fun to play with, but really needed hightfeilds for my stuff. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

are you exporting the terrain as a 3d model using the export feature? because i have had poblems with 3dc hanging up with the standard size terragen map. any expierence on this? also too my pc is a grapics server so i don’t see a hardware issue. just wondering.

3DC can slow down considerably when importing large heightmaps. Especially with 9x/Me. Sometimes it is just a matter of waiting long enough. But, sometimes the image is just too large (more than 32K pixels) – I thought there was an error message for this but perhaps there isn’t.
