How to Make Glass

This is what it now looks like renered in Pov <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Here I changed the directions of the directional lights, to brighten up some of the surrounding.

…rendered with Pov, after changing the directional lights. I think this looks better <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>
I’m not that good with the lighting though <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

I then double-clicked on the bottle and that brought up the Lathe Object Building Tool, where I created the bottle first.

Added two more points between the bottom and middle, then added another two from the middle and the neck of the bottle.

I moved these new points closer to the bulging part of the bottle, to smooth thing better-see first pic
second pic wire-frame render

And here is the final Image <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>
The best thing about this method is that you can also place a bump-map on your model <!– s8-) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8-)" title="Cool" /><!– s8-) –>
Well that’s it. I hope that I have explained all this well enough.
If you spot anything wrong please let me know <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
If there is anything else someone could add to this, please feel free to do so. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

James.

I placed a bump map with the already glass texture of the bottle. Oh! and changed the wrap to cylindrical on the material palette.
This is the result. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Another with a diferent bump <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

A crystal clear tutorial. Great stuff. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

Just one point, it may be worth reducing the image sizes sometime. It’s takes quite a while waiting for the download to complete.

Nice work.

Bazza

Thanks Bazza.
The Images could of been a bit smaller, I’ll keep this in mind the next time I make a tutorial <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> It’s one of the reasons why this tut took me awhile, waiting for the page to load up so I could reply or edit the posts.
What I did is, posted the images first and then edited it after, this way I was keeping track of thing better, and could see if I was leaving something out <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Here’s another image. This time I gave the wine glass a bump map and added some spot lights to try and pick up the effect.

I really have to say, this tut is excellent, thank you very much for posting this. IMO it belongs on the web site under Tutorials

Good work and excellent teaching.
