Help with lights

Richard,
I’m going to try and work with the media statement in Pov v3.5 this weekend. Supposedly you can add the media effects to objects like spheres, etc, so I’ll try that and see what I come up with. It would be great to get this type of effect when rendering with Pov, since it does so well with 3DC.

Les

Does anyone know what all the light setting are in 3dc/povray ?

I want to have a space shot (black + stars andnbsp;:) )with a sun in the centre (yellowish) andnbsp;with a glow around it caused by fog getting fainter as you move away…..

any help ?

Alan,
Is this what you were talking about? I did not add the planet to this scene, but you can still see the effects.
Email me if you want the Pov code for this scene.

Les

Yes please andnbsp;;D

Alan,

I can’t help, at least yet, but I just wanted to tell
that I’m searching solution to precisely same problem…
If you find some info, please tell here, OK? I’ll do the
same if I find somethin useful. Lighting is of prime
importance in 3D…

Hi Guys,
If you read my earlier post, forgive me, I was wrong in the way I described how to do this. It seems you will have to add the media effects when rendering in order to get the glowing effect.
I don’t think I can explain how to do this as I have not worked much with media. I know how to do it easily in MegaPov, but not in the newer version of PovRay.

Sorry bout the bad info.

Les

Hi Alan and Les,

I found one solution:

[img:7zn1o4br]http://koti.mbnet.fi/~mmyllyma/thesun.jpg[/img:7zn1o4br]

The andquot;planetandquot; has no interesting features.

The andquot;sunandquot; is fully 100 % ambient, so it shows no shadows.
Behind the andquot;sunandquot; is huge black cube, zero ambience, fully
100 % specular.
Then andnbsp;comes the tricky part: I have two lights between
the andquot;sunandquot; and the background cube; the andquot;sunandquot; halo.
I have also a light between the andquot;planetandquot; and the andquot;sunandquot;
to cause planet to shade correctly.

Placing would need work, the andquot;sun’sandquot; halo seems to be
off center; also star texture to cube could add detail.

But I think this is enough to serve as an example… andnbsp;;D

Will do – but I am sure that one of the many povers out there will be kind enough to let us in on the secrets…

This is the fx I am after….

Les,

Can you email it to me too? I will see if there is a way to include it in the standard 3DC raytrace export.

Richard

Thabks for all the help here chaps.

Not had any time to play today – but I will try to have a look at it tomorrow.

That’s OK Les. I realized that they didn’t include Glow lights in 3.5 and was just hoping that you knew something I didn’t.

Richard

Hi Guys,
UNfortunately, I have not been able to reproduce this scene in PovRay v3.5 using andquot;mediaandquot;. I have not had the time lately to do any andquot;in depthandquot; studying of the new media statements in PovRay

Richard,
I emailed you the code for this scene (galaxy.zip) included as attachment, BUT this scene was done in MegaPov. I havn’t learned the different ways of using andquot;mediaandquot; in Pov v3.5 just yet. Hopefully, and IF I can make this sick machine of mine cooperate, I will learn more about the new methods this weekend. I’m sorry if anyone misunderstood about how I produced the scene.

blaydrnnnr,
I have also emailed the code to you with galaxy.zip as attachment.

Alan,
If you have not yet found the galaxy.zip at the PovRay website, let me know and I’ll email it to you also.

Again, I’m sorry if anyone misunderstood

Les

Could i please have the code as well?? I play with POV as much as I’m playing with 3DC andnbsp;;)

Les
Yes please to galaxy.zip

Small pic. showing just 2 spheres and 1 spotlight direct from 3dc via pov. All I did way to move the sun away from the camera about 35 – 40 units. It is not quiter there, yet……

need to clean up the fog a bit andnbsp;;)
