Get Tatto Free FREE FREE

just a thought….

maybe contact Terrabit, work out an arrangement to bundle the original Tattoo code with 3DC, or as a plug in (pro version, of course), do a little code tweeking between the two intities to handle 3DC format, grant Tattoo a percentage of each licence sold. Maybe a different package, call it 7.0 Pro++ or something. Sort of a limited partnership kinda thing.

If it worked, word would get around, and 3DC might be blowing some doors off.

Couldn’t hurt to ask.
But then, I know little about what it would take to actually program such a thing.

Lee Page who wrote Tattoo has now released it free on a none comercial license. Get it here [img:3jmho3t1]http://www.terabit.nildram.co.uk/tattoo/[/img:3jmho3t1]

If you havn’t seen or heard of Tattoo let me tell you; YOU NEED IT.

What it does is it lets you paint directly onto your model instead of using a paint program and a flat 3DC. You can use it to paint superb faces/clothes/creases on your figure models. You can also paint from a texture so things like Spaceships/Organic models etc. become easy to handle. The model does need to be uv mapped first.

I use this tool quite a lot as my painting techniqes are somewhat lacking. Take a look at my Grim Reaper in the Model Feedback section and the Serf in the tutorial section. (Figure tutorial I think). These were my first attempts at using Tattoo.

Tattoo was written with Bltz3D BTW.
Let me know what you think, it’s only a 2Meg download so take a look.

I agree – well worth the download.

Thanks for the Info!!!! I’ll be downloading it ASAP. Cant wait to give it a whirl.

This is really nice!

I had planned to add something like this to version 7.0. I may still add it to 7.0, but if there is cheap/free alternative I may not.

Richard

Glad you liked it Richard, I feel Lee has been very generous in releasing this tool free for personal use. I had to pay for mine but I have had the benifit of using it for the last six months.
It includes a special feature called projection painting, which I understand is only available with expensive high applications such as Body Paint2 and DeepPaint3D. I’m not quite up on this feature or what it actually does but by all accounts its very impressive.

I think Lees’ only request is that if you do use this tool on your models is to mention it and give him some credit for the work he has done.

Again it will import .x but gives better support to .b3d. If you import in .b3d with a lightmap attached you can work on both the skin and lightmap seperatly. Nice

I’d go ahead and add it to 7.0 anyway. Tattoo is agonizingly slow and crashes frequently on my machine, so it wouldn’t hurt to have another alternative to Tattoo available.

‘Tattoo is agonizingly slow and crashes frequently on my machine’

… and I don’t have a junk machine.

My thoughts as well. Something ‘native’ to 3DC is still a superb option that should be considered.

If your having problems with Tattoo try the Tattoo forums .

Lee page is VERY helpful, so if you post your problem he will get back to you.
One other thing to try is to turn off the ‘force
to VRAM’ in the prefs. You must re-start before it takes effect.

Alex
Hope it tests out OK for you. This program has given me some confidence again because I really am a terrible artist.
I agree about the uv-tools. I was finding things very difficult with the 3DC tools on anything other than a simple model, so I asked around and found most people who do a lot of unwrapping use ULTIMATE UNWRAP 3D. I bought it and wow!! How I ever managed without it I’ll never know.
It’s a bit daunting at first but if you work through the tutorials it all starts to make sense.
Take a look

I agree here with Mel and Pete. It does use an incedible amount of system resources and also frequntly crashes. It won’t even run on my work computer and thats only a year old !

An alternative to Tattoo would be most welcome, Richard. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

If you have an NVIDIA graphics card with the latest drivers this could be whats causing your problems. As I understand it NVIDIA made a pigs ear of the latest set of drivers and say the problems will be corrected with the next update.

Again try switching off the ‘Force to VRAM ‘in prefs and see if this helps. You must re-start for it to take effect.

If you read through the FAQs, Lee has added a feature to allow Tatto to run on machines with less resources. Again if you post any problems on the Tattoo forums Lee will get back to you.

I agree it would be nice to have this kind feature within 3DC but maybe to bring it to the level of Tatto would be just as demanding on the amount of system resources. Maybe an in-between approach would do.
