geforce 4 info please

Thanks Seravajan – I think I will stick with the Radeon for now.

I am thinking of getting a WinFast A170 DDR T (a GeForce4 MX440 chip) by Leadtek as a replacement for an ATI radeon VE.
Does anyone know:-
a/ will this cause problems with 3dc ?
b/ is it a big improvement ?
c/ will the wife notice ?

Do you have XP or 9x/Me?

If you have XP, the best choice is definitely ATI Radeon. You may see some performance improvements with the Geforce, but more than likely they won’t be noticable. And, you’ll have less reliable drivers and a flat-wireframe mode that doesn’t work as well.

If you have 9x/Me then it is a toss up as to which is the best driver. The flat-wireframe mode will not work as well with the NVIDIA.

Thanks for that Richard – as I am running xp I will save my pennies.

A Geforce 4 MX of any types are slower than a true Ati Radeon 8500. The 460 MX chipset have equivalent power of about a GF 3 Ti 200. If you really need a better card then try to get a GF 4 Ti 4200 or better. The Ti 4600 costs much more but it is now the most powerful card you can buy at the moment.
