Sorry if I am re-inventing the wheel. I missed the 6.0 discussion.
The things that would make my life easier are:
1. Normalize size/position of .3ds imports
2. Ability to select and group multiple objects.
3. Ability to split (rather than Boolean) one object with another.
4. Ability to render selected object only.
5. Maintain selection when you change views.
6. Ability to extrude in main window.
