Fountain

David_070,
Thanks for the hoorahs guy. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, I’ll never use anything but 3DC from now on. It’s just that fantastic.

Thanks again,
Les

Here is a fountain model I did with just a cylinder and a sphere. First the 3DC picture, then the PovRay picture of the same model.
Les

The PovRay fountain is excellent… <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

I have not sure how you did the PovRay picture ?, but the reflections and transparent ball looks very effective…It looks like I’ve a lot more to learn andnbsp;;)

And the PovRay picture.

eko,
Thanks…..<!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

The latest version of PovRay, v3.5 has a great tutorial in it. It goes from basic stuff to advanced. I still use the older version(v3.1g) for doing a lot of things because the two versions are somewhat compatible with each other. They will both read files exported from 3DC very well with only a few differences in the code. I’m still learning about PovRay myself so I’m not putting a lot of details here, but with the tutorial in PovRay, and the ones you can find on the web, you should be able to learn it fairly easy.
Thanks again,
Les

Alex,
That’s not a stupid question, but I’m not sure that I can answer it. I usually just put a color on the object, then change to whatever texture I want or need once in PovRay. The main reason for this is habit. I have not tried applying the textures any other way as yet, and you know how hard it is to break some habits…..LOL.
Les

P.S.
I think the 3DC/Pov interface would probably do a good job, and maybe save a little time as well. I’ll have to try that soon.

Alex,
I think that 3DC and PovRay are the perfect match. I would not even consider using any other 3D modeller after finding 3DC, and as long as I can keep learning the pov code I will always have a copy of it on hand also.
Here’s the code for the light and textures;

(light_source { [-15.319843E-01, 4.023437E+00, -10.670668E+00], White }

light_source { [450.319843E-01, 40.023437E+00, -10.670668E+00], White }

#declare Tex0 =
texture {T_Gold_5E}// Fountain texture…Just make sure to add the andquot;Metals.incandquot; to your pov scene file.

#declare Tex1 =
texture {T_Winebottle_Glass}//Glass ball texture…Add andquot;glass.incandquot; to pov scene file.)

The beginning and ending parentheses are not part of the code!

As for doing an AVI with PovRay? Wow! I got lots more to learn first……<!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Thanks for the comments and compliments….
Les

P.S.
The Glass and Gold textures are very simplified due to the andquot;glass.incandquot;, and andquot;metals.incandquot; files. If you would like you can email me and I’ll send you a list of the glass and metals texture indentifiers(names).

i like the reflection on the ground!!
