Fill face from above (resolved)

I added a new ‘R’ function when faces are selected in standard editing mode that restricts the axis to X, Y and Z, as you suggested Paul.

It will be in 7.2, which will be available in a few days.

A bug has re-appeared.

Selecting a face viewed from vertically above, using standard coordinate mode, the fill operation applies textures using the screen coordinate mode.

I can’t reproduce this. It seems to work just fine. You do need to be pretty vertical though. You’ve tried it with ‘highlight selection with material preview’?

It is still a problem.

The fill tool on the right toolbar works correctly but what I was using was the fill operation button on the left.

Select a face, viewed from directly above (at an odd angle), run the fill operation and it uses the screen coordinate mode (as do the preview modes)

Ahh… now I understand. Yes, not resolved.

Ok, I went through and had a good look. I don’t think it should be changed. The direction is not just used for applying textures. It’s also use for moving points, edges, faces etc. So the direction has to work for all. If I change it to make material application better then the moving of points etc will be odd.

But, I’m willing to listen to arguments indicating otherwise. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

With V7 I use this all the time – leave it for the moment I’ll look for (or write) an alternative. UV map operation might do the job instead.

I’m thinking about options, including using constraining in some way.

Maybe something like holding down the x key to force an x direction, or the z key to force a z direction.

Not sure what I’ll do, but I’d like to come up with something.

xyz-keys for constraining the same way as the tool-bar buttons does would be a great idea.
Using that all the time to make sure I’m not moving things the wrong direction.
But would it be possible for 3DC to remember the status of these buttons and the selection of coordinate system between sessions?
Now I always start by clicking on xyz-buttons and change to world coordinates (because that’s how my brain works).

Still thinking on this one. I’d really like to have this in the next release. It’s a bit tricky on how exactly to implement it.
