I think I figured this out. The andquot;sourceandquot; has to be closed or you don’t get a closed object. It may appear that your source is closed likely if you zoom in on the start point you will see that the last point isn’t exactly over top of your start point.

I have been using the extrude tool to make various solid objects, but today while making the cross section of a locomotive, I am unable to get a solid extrusion.
Each time I try, the extrusion comes out with just an outline. In the past it has been said this is because there is a gap in the outline, but I have redone it 6 times with the same result, is there an easy way to join the outside ?

That appears to be what the problem was, it looked OK, but on zooming it was not quite on top.
