Yep, you’re absolutely on the the right track. It removes the layers that build up as you build your model. The only andquot;destructionandquot; you’ll see is if you need to go back and undo a layer on an object (a merge, for example). The layer’s not there anymore, so you can’t undo it. I believe the compact operation also reduces the size of the .3dc file.

I stumbled upon this operation while exploring the program. Can someone tell me its correct use. I think that it seems to get rid of all the extra layers once you have finished working on your object, as it only leaves the andquot;object primitiveandquot; and andquot;object compactandquot; when you are through. Sort of like making the object more efficient. I noticed the program runs faster after I andquot;cleaned-upandquot; all the objects’ layers.
