Error during animation and rendering

That’s really odd. Do you have the original (broken) model? I’d really like to have it if I can (<!– e –>submissions@amabilis.com<!– e –>).

I’ve recently started using 3DC and POVRay for animation. I’m getting the following error every time I try to write an animation to a file or take a snapshot.

andquot;Errors occured while raytracing. It may be that your raytracer is not configured properly etc. etc.andquot;

All I have done so far is import a 3DS model and move it around alittle. I haven’t applied a texture or anything elso to the object. Why am I getting this error and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks for the cool applicationby the way.

I think this same thing has happened to me several times upon installs/reinstalls, etc. andnbsp;:)

What you probably need to do is open POVRay, go to the Options menu, Script I/O Restrictions, and set it to andquot;No Restrictions.andquot;

I checked that. It is set to andquot;no restrictionsandquot; Could the 3D studio model I imported be bringing some texture information along with it that POV can’t find. I’m confused as to which program is having the problem. Is it 3DC that can’t find a texture or POV?

I think you are right about the texture becoming lost… try to re-texture in 3dc – if this works then you will know this is the problem, if it still fails with a texture from 3dc then we will need to think again <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

(you could also save your 3dc file, 3ds model and texture all in one folder and try again…)

I’m running 3DC 5.7a, POVRay 3.5, and windows XP on a 1.5Ghz, modile P4. An interesting thing happened today while playing with a smaller model – it ran!!. After that I opened up a larger model (I think it was around 5000 faces) and it wouldn’t work. Is there a size limitation for the models used? Also I uninstalled and reinstalled 3DC and POV with no improvement.

Any help is appreciated.

Do you have the latest POVRay installed? That’s another possible cause.

I think I found the problem. The 3DS model consisted of 8 objects, 7 of which seemed to be normal (visibly all there etc.) the eighth one was missing a piece of a face. I tried to repair it but was unsuccessful. I deleted the partial object and created a new animation which ran perfectly. I’ve repeated this test three times now and the animation works perfectly.

Problem solved I guess. Thank you all for the expert advice.

Have you tried to export the *.pov file to see if this runs ok ?
