Devastator Latest Model

well there are places already on the net to sell your models.
I wont mention any as i dont know it by experience but others have told me they are making a small fortune selling them.

Hi Y’all,
This is the Devastator. The largest and heaviest strike craft in my fleet. Made from cubes and cylinders, with addons like seats, guns, missiles, and canopy. Finished in MegaPov. The guns are twin 75mm Gatling style rotary laser cannons. In rapid fire mode, they can fire two barrels(direct opposites)(in rotating fashion) from each gun at the same time. It can also fire from 1 to 20 missiles/bombs simultaneously.

troub,
I haven’t tried any animations in Pov just yet, cause I’m still learning about the Pov universe, include files, etc. I guess eventually I will try something like that. I have some ideas I would like to try, but there never seems to be enough hours in the day. Thanks for the comments. andnbsp;:)

WOW. andnbsp;Do you do animation in POVRay? andnbsp;Putting together some movies with your models would be amazing!

You’ve got a very distinctive and novel style, Les. Your ships look so organic and sleek…it’d be even cooler if they had markings and insignia on them, though. They look more like high-speed racing craft than military ships, but they’d look right at home on the cover of a Sturgeon or Heinlein science-fiction novel anyway. Good stuff <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

Mel,
Thanks,
My design ideas come from a very basic fact, or thought. I believe that fighters/bombers/etc. that will be seen in the distant future will have to be sleek, streamlined craft, for several reasons. One reason is simply because of the time period where they might be seen. Another being that the transition between planetary atmospheres and space is pretty rough on any craft, so a more streamlined ship would have less difficulty making the transition. Also, it is likely that very shiny surfaces tend to help an object blend with its surroundings, simply because of the reflective qualities. There’s lots more reasons than these, but it would take up too much space to list them all….LOL
As for markings, I would like to put some decals/markings of some kind on my ships, but havent done a lot of work on it due to lack of time, and not knowing exactly what I want them to look like.
Thanks again for the comments,
Les

Mel,
One of my biggest problems is that when I sit down with pencil and paper to try and do a rough sketch, I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler……LOL. So, for that reason alone, if I accidently create a good design for something like an emblem or decal of some kind, it’s just that, an accident.
I’ve been trying to use objects(pictures of objects) in 3DC that could be used to create emblems or decals, but no luck yet.

That’s a good design philosophy, Les.

I usually design my stuff in such a way that people subconsciously assume that it’s realistic. I cheat…I put a lot of details that you’d see on contemporary stuff, extrapolate other design elements, and stick it all together into a package that doesn’t *quite* look like anything seen today.

Sorta like Jerry Bruckheimer’s school of design for the movie andquot;Aliensandquot;, ya know? Ugly, functional, and yet cool in its own way, because it just looks like it works. I design most of my sci-fi stuff that way ’cause of the storyline and ambience of my game, basically.

I like seeing other schools of design as well, because variety is just cool. Your stuff is likely a lot closer to what we’ll see in the far future than mine is, and looking at it gives me a warm fuzzy from those days as a kid I spent reading classic sci-fi novels by the masters.

Thanks indi,
My dream is that one day someone will create a game/game engine that would handle the high poly counts that my models have, and want to use all my models in it…… <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
But, I might just set up a website one of these days and do just exactly what you suggest. I just haven’t done it yet.
Thanks again,
Les

Les you could sell a limited package of ships and actually earn some pocket money from these great works <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

what about a screen saver of all your ships doin loop d loops?

Shaun

Mesher,
Hmm, had not even thought about the screensaver thing, but I don’t know how to do that, so, we’ll see.

indi,
I also didn’t know there were places I could sell them. I’ll have to check into that.

I just got through changing video cards(went back to an older one temporarily) to see if my machine would work better, so I may have to hold off on doing my modelling, at least till I see how this vidcard works. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out.
