Mr Happy Worm…. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

I started mucking about with a basic cube and came up with this – but I had not read the rules properly and I missed the ‘character’ bit <!– s:( –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!– s:( –> never mind – ’twas fun anyway <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

an auto smoothed cube with some extrusions and bridges.

Very nice!! <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>
I like the metal/chrome texture. Very realistic.

Pity you missed the ‘character’ bit, <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> but I suspect a bit of gamesmanship here. I can just hear everybody saying, ‘ I can’t compete with this, I don’t think I’ll bother’. <!– s:D –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!– s:D –>

Really great piece of modellling.

Maybe I should change the rules. Or perhaps I should make an exception for this since this is ‘exactly’ what I was hoping for in that it demonstrates how useful subdivision surfaces can be.

Maybe a choice of say four subjects, instead of just a character.

As long as none of them have wheels on!! <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

very cool,

although, you did use bridges- a boolean opperation if i remember right. i personally think it would be cool to have a contest that doesn’t limit you. have a contest on making real world objects or a city/scene. this would open the contests up a little more, and probably bring in more than 8-15 entries. also it would force people to be more creative and use every element ( plugins, surface too, etc.) in 3dc, rather than just focusing on a small section.

-IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO CHANGE THE RULES AGAIN

-Korben

The main point of the competition is to have people ‘discover’ a very powerful feature of 3DC that current goes almost unused. The competition will continue to begin with ‘drop a cube/turn on auto-smoothing’ since it is something that we need to create expertise in. I may relent on what the subject may be.

Note that there are lots of tutorials on modelling using subdivision surfaces out there and even though they weren’t written for 3DC they ideas do apply.

Also, the Bridge ‘operation’ is not a boolean function. There is a Bridge boolean operation too. Yes, I know… confusing.

thanks for the comments <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

here is try 2

Maybe a work in progress…maybe not….

standing at just over an hour up to now ….

added the model for download [img:23e37xrj]http&#58;//homepages&#46;tesco&#46;net/~aeast/3d/amabilis/chr1&#46;html[/img:23e37xrj]
here

Looks good so far. <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>

Maybe a tutorial is needed!!

just incase the character rule is dropped <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –>
using the auto smooth is avery quick way to make a dice….

inside 3dc

(all done in about 6 steps (if you count painting the dots as one step <!– s:) –><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!– s:) –> ))

last one for today (maybe)….

and inside 3dc

Back to ‘character 2’ and some texture work….

Very nice!

Although I do think you could modify the tire into a character…

Introducing TireMan! He’s always tired.
