Bones and MSTS – Low poly People ???

Hi Paul,

Thanks – I’ll gladly take a look… I had looked at your models but I didn’t realize they had bones… I needed some seated figures for the cab I built… I didn’t think I could match up any of the models posted with where I needed them… Poly count seems right on to me… Don’t want to use too many resources that I could use on the engine…

Have a good day – night – sir…

All,

I’m in the market for an Engineer and Fireman for my steam locomotive…

I kinda read over the ‘bones’ tutorial… Has anyone ever tried to make some really low poly people using bones – and – then exporting to MSTS ???

Would bones fracture the skin too much for MSTS ???

I really don’t like modeling people – but – I thought if I have to do it – why not do it once and have some that are posable for different applications…

Anyway – just a thought…

Regards,
Scott

Hi Scott,

That is exactly what I did for my crew sets several years ago.

I created a low poly figure, added bones to pose the model then exported them as S files.
They have been used all around the world in hundreds of locos. They were even exported to Trainz and included in the TRS2006 product.

Bones are not too stable in 3DC V6 and 7, it takes a while playing with them to learn what you can and cannot do.

If I had done them today I would probably have 4 times as many polys.

Here’s another tutorial you may find useful (similar to the whale)

I’ll e-mail you the source model (probably tomorrow now)
