Nice variation, though!
I like both versions, for different reasons…

Another bit of silliness but fun never the less <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
Been playing again came up with these, er, ‘Bio-domes ?’
Now I must get back to those tutorials, too much to learn and so little time…..
No info (sorry) but I messed up the mesh (? right term ?) so no info.
I think the question everyone has is: How did you get that cool glow effect? Is there a textured cube in the background that the light is hitting?
Richard
Whoa!
Looks good! Very good metal texture and good
composition!

Nice bio-domes, and I also would like to know how the glow effect was done. Everything looks great! <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

I don’t think I could repeat it – it was just trial and error ! andnbsp;:-[
Just playing with light, and a bit of after fx in a paint package.
An obvious way to get an engine andquot;glowandquot; such as this:
A translucent texture with a andquot;redandquot; glow.
Here is how you do it:
1) Create a single face using the andquot;CreateFaceandquot; plugin. Make it a child of the andquot;shipandquot; and place it just behind the engines.
2) Scale it to say 5x5x0 (you won’t be able to scale it to this using the right-click scale to since it is broken-but will be fixed soon)
3) Apply this andquot;alpha glowandquot; texture.
4) Invert the face using the andquot;Invertandquot; operation
5) Have it andquot;trackandquot; the animation camera.
This would work good for andquot;visible lightsandquot; and other glow effects. There is a tutorial in this. In fact I started one on this, but I am so pathetic at creating textures that I gave up.
Also, you would want to have some red point lights where the engines are so that the surrounding parts of the model and nearby models would get a andquot;glowandquot;.
Richard
I’m not going to be able to get to this tutorial for a while.
I’ve attached my attempt at creating andquot;glowandquot;. Kinda pathetic, but it does show that it is possible through a bit of trickery.
Actually, I forgot to set the lights on the engines so I didn’t get the red reflection that I wanted.
Richard
I have sent a version of the ship – I really must get into the habbit of backing up work …. andnbsp;
Could you send me your ships so I could replicate your scene in 3DC? Or if you have a full scene sans the glow that would be good too.
Richard
Not sure if I follow this -any chance of a demo scene, please ?
I might write that tutorial. I’m still humming and hawing about it.
