Bike and House

Good point. I’ll check out DX when I get home later to see what I have. My current version of 3DC is 6.6.Thanks….

Everything modelled in 3DC with the expception of the trees and plants, exported, lighted and rendered in POV. The bike was a model I started along time ago, and ‘scrapped’ it. I used it in this scene for color and reference, thought it looked interesting so I left it. Render time in POV was about a half hour.

For the newer Modellers…Here is the same picture but with ‘harsher’ lighting. Some was asking about shadows, well, in the picture, the shadows have sharp edges. The first Picture used area lighting, which is basically a grid of lights with your specs coded in along with a bunch of lighting effects found in POV. This picture is just a single light source, sized very large, and placed somewhere in the scene. Both have advantages in certain circumstances. Sharp shadows look like a bright, clear summer day. Or are good for something that is lighted artificially, like in a display window in a store. Softer shadows are more for a cloudy or over cast day, or for a dimly lit room. Hope this helps some…. Once again… the original Pictures show alot more and better detail, these JPEGS lose alot of definition…soory about that. OH.. and by the way for the newer people, just so you know the difference, the second image rendered in about 3 minutes as compared to the 30 minutes using an area light like in the first Pic.

Great model, its obvious that a lot of work has gone into it. Well done.

Thanks Paul. Actually, I have to be honest here..there really wasnt alot of time spent on this. The house was very fast, the bike was an old model, so, I dont really have alot of time spent here. if I were to start ‘tweaking’ it, I would probably spend alot of time on it. These days I am trying to keep the scenes to very quick, simple models, otherwise I tend to spend way too much time on them and alot of the time, I will stop working on them for long periods of time. ( I must have 200 WIP’s <!– s:roll: –><!– s:roll: –> ) I like to get them to a somewhat finished state and post them so others, especially the newer people can get ideas, ask questions and so on. I do have some that are in the works that are very detailed and extensive, but they are still in the WIP pile. <!– s:D –><!– s:D –> Thanks for the thumbs up!!

Nice textures again…the rendering time should come down when you get your new sysstem. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

At last…a machine worthy of your talents. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>
I bet everything is running a lot more smoothly now.

So how long would it have taken with your old system?

Gile is just the same…the more lights you have the longer it takes.

Actually, things arent running as smooth as I had hoped. Everytime I use autosmooth on a simple object, I get an error messege saying there was a problem and that 3DC will close, but its not the usual messege that gives you an error #. It’s coming from windows I think. I’m thinking it has something to do with XP sp2. I really cant use smoothing almost at all. If I try to use it, its fine until I try to adjust the level or the amount it changes from the original shape. if I slide either adjustment, it crashes. I downloaded and installed the latest driver but no difference. Not sure whats going on. It asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft, but thats not going to help me any so… just got to keep plugging at it. Actually, come to think of it, I’m not quite sure I’m on the most up-todate version of canas. When I get home tonight from work I’ll hae to see. That might make a difference. We’ll see.

Sorry to hear about the auto smooth problem. I’m using XP with SP2 without any problems, it may be worth checking which version of DX your running.
I couldn’t get V6.6 to run at all untill I installed the latest version of DX 9.0c
