Animation Concerns and model disappearing

Hannes44,

That’s it.. first problem solved!! andnbsp; andnbsp; Can anyone shed some light on the second problem involving the animation rate problem I’ve been having. andnbsp;Read earlier posts for details. andnbsp;Any help/ideas would be great!!

Ok.. let me discuss the model disappearing problem first. andnbsp; So I’ve made this molecule model (exporting from hyperchem modelling software) and when I open it, I see it for a brief second and then it disappears. andnbsp;I know it’s still there cause all the groups and objects are still in the heirarchy area. andnbsp;I can get them to reappear but i have to go to the heirarchy page and INDIVIDUALLY left click on andnbsp;each object (there are 20 of them) and click them andquot;visibleandquot;. andnbsp;Anyone have any idea why this disappearing act is ocurring???

The 2nd issue is about animation… -I’m rotating the carbon2-carbon3 bond (in green) to show steric interactions of the big Iodine (yellowish-green) with the CH3 group when the dihedral angle is 0 degrees (the angle is 180 in the picture). andnbsp; If I try to do a 360 rotation animation it animates at 4 frames a second. andnbsp; This is too choppy… when the colours of the atoms are plain it goes up to 50 frames a second and looks much better.

One thing I’ve noticed is that each sphere is made up of like 992 faces and 754 points (times that by 11 atoms) makes up a lot of faces and points? andnbsp; Is this my issue? andnbsp; How do I paint it up like I want and still have a smooth 360 degree rotation???

Hi’
andnbsp;I really get a kick out of your models-maybe I can help with the easy one[ I hope] When you right click on the object does andquot; visibleandquot; have a check by it? If not, check it. Maybe that will help until someone helps with the other stuff.
andnbsp;KB

So I’ve been isolating variables to see what makes the animation quality (frames per second) go up or down.. the lower picture is plain coloured with all the spheres having the 992 faces with 754 points and that animation rate is ~50-55 frames per second which is alot smoother than 4 when I start added beefed up colours (as above).

So it’s a colour quality issue???? andnbsp;Any thoughts???

p.s. andnbsp; The disappearing is still happening.. no clue what to do there!!!

thanks ALOT… ok, so for future newbies (I guess this is the hard road for me to stop be a newbie and start being a andquot;slighty informed newbieandquot;) andnbsp;the news is this.

IF your model is disappearing PRESS visible objects button (14th icon from the right when all icons are present)

For my second problem… DO NOT apply materials when the ANIMATE button is pressed. andnbsp;If you do this, the program assumes you plan to animate the material which was not the case in my project. andnbsp;When I clicked the animate button off and applied my materials after andnbsp;- andnbsp; when i went BACK to aminate it was very smooth. andnbsp;

Learning bit by bit.. thank

It sounds like you may have applied the materials in animation mode. If you apply a material in animation mode 3DC assumes that you have plans to animate the material and has to do a lot of extra work.

Also, regardless of how slow it looks in 3DC if you render it to a video it will always look smooth.

Seems everybody falls for this sooner or later. Maybe Richard should change this.

You must press the visible objects button, that’s the button with the brown box with a grid, then your objects will reappear. ( The 14th from the right.) It seems you must have released it inadvertedly.
