Al’s back to basics – Auto Smoothing

If you extrude a face of an auto smoothed model only slightly (0.01) then you will get a sharp (smoothed) edge. This can lead to some interesting effects…

These three objects are a basic cube with auto smoothing turned on. Notice how you can still get a ‘sharp’ edge by using a very small extrusion…..
