About md2 and the 3DC bones system

Uh, thanks, but no.
I know all this already.

DB Pro is actually in Alpha, not Beta stage, but being a member on DBDN I get to talk to the makers of it, and as I suggested the problem to them they were denying anything wrong with it, so I had to go through lengthy conversations with them and Amabilis to resolve it.
This is now resolved, as Mike has discovered that it’s the way in which DX8 is interpreted that’s the prob. Apparently DX8 has a lot more complications and isn’t as universal as DX7 was. <!– s:( –><!– s:( –>

As for DB1, it’ll never support MD2 or DX8. This is what DBPro is being made for.

By hierarchical models I assume you mean limb based models, as DX8 is also hierarchical. And incidentilly, these did not work too well with DB when exporting from 3DC, as every so often a frame would skip on a complex model. ]:(

Also, the MD2 loading isn’t the prob. I can’t even get it to export without crashing or giving an error message. I’ve given up on this though, as I’m sticking to DX8 models anyway.

Thanks for the input anyway.

Hi Alex

I have seen some some of your discussions with Richard about bones and to be honest they have been above my head. :-[

I am going to spend this weekend reading up on bones and I will get back to you on Monday when I know a bit about the subject.

I have not done much character work yet and look forward to learning the about it.

Monday evening 9:15pm ..

Perhaps 48 hours was optimistic. <!– s:) –><!– s:) –>

From the tests that I have tried (admittedly very simple tests) 3 D C appears to do everything that I want. There is some deformity when I approach 90 degrees but I don’t know if this is in due to my modelling or not. (I noticed similar problems in one of the character f x models)

Obviously I don’t know enough about this subject but i will continue and come back to you andquot;in two weeksandquot;.

i hope you guys dont mind too much, but i am going to be watching this particular posting very closely. My whole goal in getting 3DC was to hopefully, with POV included, learn to animate. I dont have the above mentioned softwares, but if i can find them and cost is not too over the top i would also like to play around alittle with such things. Thanks for letting me watch-in. ;D

I hope it is something I am doing wrong,
but I can’t think what.
I’ve followed the tutorials for boning and I’m exporting from the root object, the only thing I can think is that the root object is a seperate object to the andquot;skinnedandquot; one.
I’ve tried deleting this and just exporting the skin, but the result didn’t load at all.
I don’t know what else to configure, but I will experiment with Ming, and see if that works.
Thanks

MD2 does work. It may be that your model is not configured properly. Check the Ant example for a properly configured model. That also may be the problem you are having with the DirectX export.

Richard

Thanks Richard,
I believe it does export to MD2, but not my models.

It says that the platform I am exporting (which I use as a root limb for positioning reasons) is untextured. So I then texture it, but I think then it doesn’t allow you to export a multi textured and seperate boned object attached to the root object.
I didn’t really want to use MD2, I was counting on DX, it’s only coz that’s giving me probs that I tried MD2.

In what way doesn’t it let you export to MD2? The MD2 export is available by right-clicking on the object you want to export.

I’ve discussed the DirectX export on your other post.

Richard

I too, am watching this one closely.
I need the exporter in 3DC to match what DB Pro is trying to load.
:'(
At the moment It just screws up the bones when exporting to .x format, and won’t let me export to MD2 at all.
