I have made a really cool ship, but i am having trouble texturing it. Here is what i have so far (rendered in POV).

It was made form 5 cylinders and the lathe operation, using mainly bevel and extrude. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanx

Simon,
You might try doing your texturing in POVray. It has some neat metallic textures that would look cool on the hull.

Wow, that is cool!

Texturing can be troublesome in 3D, especially on a model as complex as yours.

Was it you that suggested a fill mode that would put a texture on each face? I can see why one would want that looking at your model. That technique would work on this model. Especially if you used the scale by unit option of the flat wrap. This would ensure that the textures were all of the same scale on each face. The problem is that depening on the orientation of the face the texture could end up being flipped, partially rotated etc. I don’t think it is quite as simple as one would initially think. You could try painting one face at a time. Click, click ,click etc. It will take a while, but there aren’t so many faces that it can’t be done.

Yes, that was me who suggested the face thing. I agree that that would really help out in this model. Just wondering, couldn’t you just do a for-next loop and paint all hte faces with the texture? I dont know if this would work, but it might.

Actually, it is quite a bit more complicated than that, and there are the user-interface aspects also. It is at least a half day’s work. Probably more.

I do think it is useful, but now isn’t the time for me to do it.
