I’m updating the Train Simulator Wizard for Railworks. I believe I have it working correctly for Railworks, and am wondering if anyone has tips for Railworks 3/Train Simulator 2012. Specifically, the registry entries required to find the location TrainSimulator 2012 is installed and any changes to RWAceTool.
For RailWorks 2 (and I assume Railworks 1), the registry entry is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARERailSimulator.comRailWorksInstall_Path.
Anyone have any further information that I can use?

I think I can answer my own question about RWAceTool. There’s one version for all versions of RailWorks, as far as I can tell.

My registry entry is :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeRailSimulator.comRailWorks
There are two values there, Exe_Path and Install_Path.
This on Win 7 64 bits.

I’m not sure what to make of that. "Wow6432Node" is the difference. I’ll have to investigate.

I "think" that the new version should work correctly on 64 bit bit windows despite the differnces in registry keys based on what I found: [url:3pafk2nm]http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724072(v=vs.85).aspx[/url:3pafk2nm]
But, this is one of those cases where I won’t know for sure until someone tries it. The new version just released includes auto-conversion of textures using RWAceTool if it is located where the Railworks executable is located.

I can confirm the Trainsimulator Wizard finds RWAcetool on Win7 64 bits, despite the difference in the registry entrys.
A quick test showed that all textures were converted correctly.

so to use the new shaders etc with 3Dcrafter, is it just a matter of typing the names in the RailSim slot. or does 3Dcrafter need to be updated to handle all the new shaders?

Hi,
I think it’s just a matter of typing them into the Rail Sim custom field. I tried a few of the new ones, and they all worked as they should.
BTW, try TrainDecal.fx for autonumbers or stencil textures, it gets you a vast improvement in visual quality of the numbers.
Cheers,
Michael
