3DC 9.2 issues

Recently upgraded to 9.2. Most seems to be OK but;

\’Piper\’ and \’Pipe engineer\’ plug-ins both cause 3DC to stop working – no error number given

Also, the \’mirror group\’ doesn\’t seem to mirror and objst – just copy it. Not sure if it\’s me not using it correctly?

Thanks

John

Also, when trying to export to Railworks using the ‘Wizard’, I’m asked for the ‘railworks’ installation folder. Browsing through C:\programfile(x86)\steam\steamapps\source\common\railworks and accepting that. Error maessage saying ‘ToAce’ not found – convert manually ( or something like that) . Accept that message. No export – taken back to the select railworks installation folder. This loop continues until I cancel out at which point I get told to contact Amabilis……

Seems to be getting steadily worse. Start Crafter, place a cube on the grid, chamfer one edge. Select and Divide the top face. Program freezes with
“Run Time error 91 Object variablem or With block object variable not set”

Then
“Run Time error 2147418105 (800100007) Automation error. The callee (server[not server specific]) is not available and disappeared;all connections are invalid. The call may have executed”

Screen is then opaque’d . The program still appears to be running as a process in Task Manager and has to be manually ended.

Win7(home) I5 processor. Nvidia Gt320 graphics card with latest drivers.
Frustrated user.

Also, further on ‘Mirror’ plugin – appears to mirror in X but only copy in Y and Z

Hi John – there may be a small bug with the mirror script/plugin
When using Y or Z you might have to change the Y or Z rotation of the new group to 0 for it to be mirrored correctly.

Not sure on the other errors.
I have had some models “corrupted” by 9.2 – sometimes objects appear in the hierarchy with 0 points and faces. This could cause some operations/plugins to fail.

Hi Paul – thanks for the reply. The ‘mirror’ problem is really the least of my concerns at present – I’d managed well enough previously by copying and changing orientation. For the ‘pipe engineer’ plugin I reverted to v7 and realised that the plugin needed edges rather than points ( memory lapse on my part). V7 kindly informs of the the error whereas v9 gracelessly stops working. Of course, this might be due to something else, as I’m getting failures associated with several/many operations – I note that Richard had advised one person to revert to v9.1.
I’m not sure I want to do this without ‘expert advice’ !

Something else I’ve just noticed……. the “y” direction upright green ‘poles’ in the navigation control and object control gadgets at the bottom left and right corners are missing – theres a very short green cylinder at the junction of the other two.

I’ve also rolled back to the last graphics driver but with no effect. The Nvidia control panel allows for a range of settings to be applied – I have it set to ‘let the software decide’ ( or similar)

John – the green poles issue is because you have ‘compact controls’ selected…

Thread hijack:

I\’m running 3DC 9.2.2 on a high spec machine – and up until this morning it\’s been fine. Reasonably stable etc.

But now, any operation causes a freeze then crash to desktop. No error messages, nothing.

I\’ve reinstalled 3DC a couple of times, and I\’ve rolled back the drivers on my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570. I\’ve optimised the HDD and done everything I can think of, but no difference. Oddly enough it runs solidly on my barely specced laptop – go figure.

I even installed 3DC 8.2 – but that would not even launch – your assistance will be appreciated!

Mike

Left comments on the texture library thread. Maybe this one will be fixed by 2015.

9.2.2 Pro does not even let me install it on Windows 7 64-bit.

Several folks are running on Win7 64 bit so it is possible. You may need to provide more detail about what’s happening and what error messages you get.

My install still crashes frequently. I’ve added the vb6 update – no change in performance – installed latest Nvidia drivers – no change in performance. It appears a little less flaky if I only use the ‘solid outline’ or ‘wireframe’ modes, though it’s hard to be sure whether there’s a real difference.

An example of crashing – new scene, add a cube, divide a face then try to divide again

As above with John13. Also, if you use the divide operation in the operations panel and you change the divide type from standard to vertical the object becomes entirely unselectable and will ultimately crash.

Having done some rather half-hearted poking and prodding to try to improve matters, I found that, for no obvious reason ( to me at least!) one of the \’DirectX\’ dll filles was missing. This actually arose from trying to run a different program, but no matter. Anyway, having run the M$ direct X update, 3DC now seems to run a bit better. The immediate crash on two sets of divide operations doesn\’t happen.

Early days of course – but for others with similar issues, may be worth looking at.
