3DC 4.23 Beta 2 Available

Richard,
I`ve had a look at the files and they look the same (apart from the .s file name).
The one was just a copy of the other with the .s file name changed.

Looks like its a problem with my system. I`ll stick to using just transparencies for the time being.

Thanks for the help

Regards
Kevin

Hi Richard,

I had a look at the 2 .s files to see if I could see where they differed. The main difference was the sub_object_header file which on the non transluscent file was:-

sub_object_header ( 00000400 -1 -1 000001d2 000001c4

and on the transluscent file was :-

sub_object_header ( 00000500 0 1 000001d2 000001c4

If I changed the 00000500 to 00000400 then the file would run perfectly on my system. However I lose any objects (trees etc) seen through the windows.

What I cant understand is why if I run coach in MSTS with sub_object_header set to 00000400 then exit to the route selection page of MSTS minimise the window ,change the value in the .s file back to 00000500, maximise MSTS window and run again the coach appears with everything visible through the windows!

If I completely exit MSTS and try and run again then the coach fails to load and MSTS crashes.

I`ve decompiled some of the supplied MSTS trains and they do contain sub_object_header`s set at 00000500 and they work fine on my system.

By the way Richard I hope you do not think I am critizising, I still think that this is an excellent program and am really impressed with the way that you are improving it. I`m just curious why I am having problems, because when loco`s etc are released with this version then there may be others who will have the same problems.

regards

Kev

As far as I know the differences you describe are correct. Since it doesn’t crash on my system it is difficult to determine the cause/resolution.

What graphics card is in your system?

Richard

Richard, It is an Elsa Gladiac 511 using Nvidia
Geforce 2 MX/MX400 chip set.

Richard,
I have v4.21 so I have to download the combined large file. The link in the original message isn’t working, can you give me a good link?

Thanks
Hank

kevm:

It may be that MSTS doesn’t like objects that are entirely translucent (where each face is set to be translucent). I have noticed that when CONV3DS.EXE converts an object that is wholly translucent that it disables translucency.

Signalmaster:

There is another post called andquot;3DC 4.23 Release Candidateandquot; that has an active link.

Kevin,

I just tried your files on another computer that has GeforceMX. It loaded fine. One thing I did notice is that your ace file is quite large. 1.4 MBs. How large (in pixels) is the original targa? MSTS has a restriction of 512×512 pixels as a maximum. I don’t know if that is a hard restriction or if it just bombs occasionally beyond that.

Richard
