Does this mean that the free version will no longer be able to create static scenic items?

Hi,

No, the free version can’t create static scenic items.

I decided that I couldn’t support a andquot;freeandquot; version of this feature. It is just too much work.

Also, there was the real possibility that people would begin to use 3DC as a file conversion utility. 3DC exists to promote 3DC Pro and to provide 3D novices a free creative outlet, not as a free conversion utility.

On the other hand if people buy 3DC Pro and use if as a file conversion utility then that’s great. There isn’t anything else out there that can do it yet, and I can understand people wanting to use their favourite 3d app.

Richard has done a lot of work in a short period of time to allow MSTS users to get objects into the sim. There are models posted on the 3DC message boards that show the program works.

Maybe Richard can create a 15 or 30 day trial free version. Another option may be to allow a polygon limited .s export in the free version. But that is up to him.

In my mind 3DC saves $3500 so I do not see a issue. The 3DC Pro MSTS option should definitely not be free.

MRRextreme,

Unfortunately time limited trials are really easy to get around so I don’t provide it anymore.

The polygon limited .s export is a pretty good idea. I don’t know though… It doesn’t really fit with my view of 3DC. Everything that is provided should be free, not restricted by artificial numbers.

I do have some ideas about this. But I’m not sure when I’ll get to them. There are always lots of things to do. Though, I am feeling pretty good about 4.2 so far. Hopefully all will go well when people start installing.

Richard,

I would think your biggest problem is going to be ignorance, rather than the quality of the program. There seem to be a lot of people like me on the boards who want to ‘build’ locos but who have little or no knowledge of modelling. That was primarily the reason I posted that trivial example of the metal textured sphere primative. I think it demonstrates that MSTS may be a little more robust than I thought initially and, therefore, you can start out with something very simple and build on it as your experience of modelling develops.

PS… you deserve to feel pretty good about 4.2 andnbsp;

Mike,

Yes, learning to model in 3D is a big job. But it’s fun too.

And you are right. Start with something simple and work your way up. I would probably start modeling scenery.

I fully expect to see some pretty neat stuff arriving soon. If not modeled in 3DC Pro, converted using 3DC Pro.

I fully support your move to putting the MSTS export into the Pro version and will be buying the Pro version as soon as I get my next paycheque. I was just making sure of the situation before I post any more messages to other forums promoting your product. I am currently working on a ‘Dummies Guide’ to creating a PW hut from scratch, using 3DC and Paint Shop Pro with lots of screen shots, etc. I will email it to you when complete, and you might like to add it to your tutorials, maybe.

Thanks. Looks like I might have to start a andquot;MSTSandquot; section somewhere on amabilis.com.
